Picnik is a hot little browser based image editing tool from a group based up in Seattle, Washington. Anyone with a speedy internet connection can upload an image to picnik.com and have the ability to edit and apply effects to the image and then save a copy of it back onto your computer. The best part? It is free to use but they do offer a premium service that gives access to some additional features.
It’s great if you don’t already have image editing software like Photoshop CS or if you are away from home and need access to an image editing tool. If you are a netbook user picnik.com offers you an alternative while allowing you to stay mobile.
I use Photoshop CS for the bulk of my digital post processing work but during those times when I do not have access to it I readily turn to picnik.com. Its easy to upload an image and then crop, resize, adjust color and even apply a special photo effect such and black and white or sepia. The crop and resize tools really come in handy when I am editing a digital photograph for the web. All of the tools are pretty simple and intuitive so there is not much of a learning curve involved.
I recommend picnik.com to any of you needing a basic image editing tool.
