The Strobist Experience

Over the past several weeks I have been checking out David Hobby’s website Strobist and the accompanying Flickr group as well.  As someone who as always avoided on-camera flash like the plague I was surprised at the many techniques and results that can be gotten from off-camera flash setups.

In addition to the lighting techniques that I have seen, I am also drawn to the idea of having a lightweight and very portable lighting system.  This is definitely something that has caught my interest and this morning I placed an order for a Sunpak 383 flash unit, the Cactus V2s Radio Transmitter/Receiver set and some other little accessories so that I can explore the possibilities.

I do not think that the strobist approach will be the single, all-inclusive answer for my lighting needs but it definitely warrants some experimentation and I can already see a lot of possibilities.  I should have everything up and running early next week and I will post some of the results here.  I am excited.  I can’t wait to play with my new toys!
